Dr Chong Wei Peng
Cardiologist
MBBS, MRCP (UK), FNHAM, FSCAI
Dr Chong Wei Peng graduated with a basic degree in the
medical field from the University of Malaya in 1995. Upon
graduation, he proceeded to serve in hospitals in Muar,
Johor Bahru, Sibu and Sarawak. 3 years later he returned to
the University of Malaya for post graduate specialist
studies in internal medicine.
In 2000, he obtained a membership diploma from the Royal
Colleges of Physicians (UK). So why Cardiology? Dr Chong
found it fascinating, rapidly progressing, and very
“logical” thanks to his keen interest in mathematics and
physics. As such, in the same year, he started training in
cardiology, echocardiography, and pacing, coronary and
peripheral interventional procedures in the University
Malaya Medical Centre. He was also appointed clinical
specialist in the department of cardiology.
In 2003, Dr Chong was appointed lecturer in the Faculty of
Medicine of University Malaya. Within 4 years, he rose to
become Senior Lecturer & Cardiologist in the University of
Malaya Medical Centre.
Today, the humble and friendly doctor is Consultant
Cardiologist in Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur and Pantai Hospital
Ampang. He has special interests in interventional
cardiology, pacing and acute coronary syndromes. Dr Chong
believes in giving the best evidence based care to his
patients who are mainly from Klang Valley and other parts of
Malaysia. He is also one of the few cardiologists in
Gleneagles KL who chooses to routinely perform coronary
angiography and intervention via radial artery, setting him
apart from other colleagues in the same discipline as him.
Dr Chong hopes that in the years to come, treatment can be
tailor made for each individual according to his or her
genetics as well as regenerative and restorative treatment
for most of the chronic illnesses. Knowing the escalating
costs of treatments means some patients will have difficulty
coping financially, he hopes medical treatment when finally
made available will be affordable by the masses, and all can
be treated regardless.
Apart from his passion in cardiology and providing utmost
care for his patients, Dr Chong is a family man at heart.
Happily married with 3 children, he enjoys spending time
with his family and loves reading off work.
